With the Wii, Nintendo decided to follow a different path. Instead of obeying the unwritten law of increasing the power of the console and the quality of the
graphics every new generation, they decided to do things differently and successfully disrupted the game industry with a motion-sensing controller. In regards
to game audio, CD quality had already been achieved on past generations, so it was readily available on the system, which supported Dolby Pro Logic II. The
famous controller also featured a speaker that brought sound effects to a whole new dimension. However, due to the high cost of hiring an orchestra, the music
on most of its games continued being created through sound libraries and MIDI. One well know exception is Super Mario Galaxy, which received one of the most
memorable soundtracks ever composed for a video game and had its music played by an orchestra. It's also interesting to see how young new composers step in and
take the responsibility of their predecesors, who now have secondary roles in music production or retire.
