Nintendo decided not to include a CD reader on its Nintendo 64 console. This gave it several disadvantages in comparison to the other co-generational consoles, but
musically, this meant composers didn't have the storage space necessary to include soundtracks with rich and complex sounds. While Sony and Sega games had music
with great sound and production values that were getting closer and closer to those found in movies, Nintendo got stuck with MIDI-quality experiences and with the
characteristics that defined game music during the previous generations. Still, composers continued creating new tunes for the new games which turned out to be very
good; the lack of CD-quality sound wasn't an obstacle to make memorable melodies which we can still hear remixed in new incarnations of those games today.
