The Game Gear, eating six AA batteries for up to two hours of play, might not have been as portable as the Game Boy. Portability was sacrificed in order
to beat Nintendo's machine in the hardware department. Indeed, Sega made a portable console with a better screen and better quality audio. However, Nintendo
played their cards and created games tailored for portable play while the games on the Game Gear were more like handheld versions of home console games. The
Game Boy showed the world that games are what matters. The console is just a box you buy to get to the games. Even though the Game Gear lost this war, it pulled
the feat of reproducing sound with a quality that almost reached that of its home console peers. And like the Sega Genesis, the music of its games rocked!
