The GameCube had the possibility of reproducing rich sound samples, but due to the costs of hiring an orchestra or using other more technologically advanced means to
reproduce music Nintendo opted to keep using synthesized music on their games. The cinematic way of treating video game music and audio that was stablished with the
PlayStation and developed during the GameCube's life span wasn't shared by Nintendo; they continued composing music their own way, keeping the original characteristics
that had made so many of their previous compositions successful. This rejection of the cinematic production of video games cost Nintendo a lot during the GameCube
generation: its image suffered and third parties fled away from what they considered an outdated way of creating games. Still, many games had new inspiring tracks
of music which, however, didn't reach the levels of popularity achieved by those composed in the past. It seems that the new technologies available at the time didn't
translate into an increase in the quality of the new compositions.
